The Companion

Visual Impact

A shaggy grey-and-white dog sits between a cropped person’s bare legs in hard sunlight, holding the only visible expression in the frame. Broad blue-grey wall planes and a triangular shadow turn an everyday encounter into something architectural. Fur, feet, and stance make the scene immediate without defining who belongs to whom.

Artistic Detail

Parallel legs frame the dog while its uneven coat resists their smooth geometry. Sunlight separates fur, skin, shorts, stucco, and concrete into distinct surfaces. The sharp diagonal behind them prevents the centered arrangement from becoming static.

Interior Context

At medium or larger scale, the dog’s face and small highlights in its coat hold at distance. An entry, mudroom, or wall above a simple bench gives the ground-level view a natural home. Set it beside Side by Side works; slate or black framing supports the shadows.

Quality & Presentation

Produced on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper and professionally framed in solid wood, the work is available in the sizes and frame finishes shown in the product options.

For Your Collection

The dog is the active presence; the cropped body supplies scale, shade, and the familiar reassurance of someone standing close. It appears in the Queer Art & Gay Wall Art Edit as part of the collection’s broader attention to people and how they occupy a frame.

The provenance of this piece begins with you.

Framing Guide

Made to last, every work is framed to order in wood with white mat board and UV-filtering acrylic.

01
Wood frames, made to order
Each frame is built and assembled for the selected artwork. Wood grain and tone vary naturally, particularly in Natural and Deep Natural.
02
White mat board
Both frame styles use white mat board scaled to the selected artwork size. Discovery Series works are set within a cut 2.4 mm conservation-grade mat. Editions Series works are floated over an uncut mat, with a spacer preventing the artwork from touching the acrylic.
03
UV-filtering acrylic
Both frame styles use clear UV-filtering acrylic. In the Editions Series Frame, a spacer keeps the floated artwork from touching the acrylic.
04
Ready to hang
Discovery Series Frames use a Cobra hook up to 70 × 100 cm and a sawtooth hanger above that size. Editions Series Frames arrive with hardware selected for the finished size and weight.
05
Custom sizing
Need a different size? Custom dimensions are available by request. Contact us before ordering so we can confirm artwork ratio, print resolution, frame availability, and pricing.

Frame dimensions describe the moulding profile. Finished dimensions vary according to the selected artwork size and mat.
