About the Curator

Peter Sandel

Interior Designer · Curator · Founder

"Design should feel inevitable—as if the space could never have existed any other way."

Provenance & Patina is a curated destination for art and interiors, presenting gallery-level works alongside design-driven pieces chosen for material honesty, emotional resonance, and the way they live within considered rooms. Created as an online extension of Peter Sandel Design, the Manhattan-based studio led by interior designer Peter Sandel, the platform brings together fine art prints, custom furniture, vintage and decorative objects, and a full wallpaper collection through a refined point of view.

For more than 15 years, Peter has worked at the intersection of luxury residential design and the art world, collaborating with leading interior designers, galleries, and skilled craftsmen on high-end homes where composition, scale, and materiality are felt every day. That lived experience shapes the Provenance & Patina edit, grounded in how light, color, proportion, and texture move through architecture and layered interiors, and in how a room ultimately makes you feel.

Peter’s first design job was in a custom framing gallery during college, producing frames and learning hands-on how paper, glazing, and proportion shape presentation. That early training still informs the gallery’s standards. Presentation, materiality, and finishes are considered integral to every piece, from art and objects to furnishings.

Peter’s work has been featured by Architectural Digest and Elle Décor, and he has contributed to Sotheby’s on furniture and art. As a bonus for collectors and design-minded clients, select artworks include an Interior Context note with designer guidance on scale, placement, and the settings they complement best. This ensures the work arrives not just beautifully made, but also easier to place with confidence.

The Curation Process

How Every Piece Earns Its Place

01

Discovery

Every piece begins with research—provenance, condition, material authenticity. We study auction records, studio archives, and maker histories before a single object is considered.

02

Evaluation

Objects are assessed for material integrity, visual weight, and how they'll live alongside other pieces in a considered interior. Only a fraction make the cut.

03

Context

We photograph and present each piece with the same editorial precision we bring to interior projects—because context is everything, and every object deserves its best frame.

04

Presentation

Gallery-grade packaging, white-glove delivery coordination, and detailed provenance documentation accompany every acquisition from the collection.
