Afternoon Shadow

Visual Impact

A bearded man’s lower face, throat, bare chest, and clasped hands fill the vertical frame while his eyes remain outside it. Pale skin shifts through blush, charcoal, and blue-grey shadow. With identity withheld, lips, stubble, held hands, and breath carry the intimacy of the encounter.

Artistic Detail

Small contrasts carry the composition: beard against skin, parted lips above the neck, and one hand crossing the other at the sternum. Shallow focus softens fingertips more than jaw. Cool directional light gives the exposed body depth without expanding the narrow setting.

Interior Context

At medium vertical scale, hang it near eye level, where beard, hands, and skin detail can be read closely. A wall beside a doorway or bed suits the crop. Let it stand alone or join other fragmentary portraits; charcoal framing reinforces the blue-grey edge.

Quality & Presentation

Produced on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper and professionally framed in solid wood, the work is available in the sizes and frame finishes shown in the product options.

For Your Collection

Vulnerability is carried through gesture rather than a full expression. With the eyes omitted, lips, stubble, and held hands become more important. The piece belongs in the Queer Art & Gay Wall Art Edit, where suggestion and male presence can remain exact without becoming explicit.

The provenance of this piece begins with you.

Framing Guide

Made to last, every work is framed to order in wood with white mat board and UV-filtering acrylic.

01
Wood frames, made to order
Each frame is built and assembled for the selected artwork. Wood grain and tone vary naturally, particularly in Natural and Deep Natural.
02
White mat board
Both frame styles use white mat board scaled to the selected artwork size. Discovery Series works are set within a cut 2.4 mm conservation-grade mat. Editions Series works are floated over an uncut mat, with a spacer preventing the artwork from touching the acrylic.
03
UV-filtering acrylic
Both frame styles use clear UV-filtering acrylic. In the Editions Series Frame, a spacer keeps the floated artwork from touching the acrylic.
04
Ready to hang
Discovery Series Frames use a Cobra hook up to 70 × 100 cm and a sawtooth hanger above that size. Editions Series Frames arrive with hardware selected for the finished size and weight.
05
Custom sizing
Need a different size? Custom dimensions are available by request. Contact us before ordering so we can confirm artwork ratio, print resolution, frame availability, and pricing.

Frame dimensions describe the moulding profile. Finished dimensions vary according to the selected artwork size and mat.
